MOCA Refutes Delay Claims into FLA Operations, Recording of Events Leaked

The Major Organized Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA) has rejected blame for delays in approving a probe into allegations of corruption at the Firearm Licensing Authority (FLA) by a former range operator and firearms dealer. The delays were allegedly on the Agency’s part but MOCA insists they were awaiting documents from the couple who brought the concerns.

CVM LIVE received audio confirmation of the interaction at MOCA over a year ago when the complaint was made. Following a three-page letter questioning the reason for a nearly year-long delay in approving an investigation into corruption allegations at the FLA That allegedly put Kent Brown out of business.

The Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA) has fired back. In a statement on Tuesday the entity says it can confirm that in July 2021, Brown approached them and made a report alleging impropriety at the Firearm Licensing Authority (FLA). MOCA says it was the understanding of their officer who met with Brown, that Brown would return with additional documentation to assist in developing a further appreciation of the matter. The Agency says since then, it has been assessing the allegations made and has recently contacted Brown with a view to clarifying a number of issues relevant to his initial report.

However, when CVM LIVE contacted Brown after the airing of the news story on Sunday, we were advised that only Monday did they receive phone calls from the agency’s investigations director.

Brown also insists that at no point did the agency contact them after their initial interaction in July last year to request further documentation or interaction, in fact, he says they were expecting to be called back for a formal interview once they were advised as to whether MOCA would investigate.

CVM LIVE also received a 15-minute-long recording of the interaction in which the alleged MOCA officer advised the matter would require approval for investigation and they’d be contacted.
