Education Minister Fayval Williams says a total of 167 teachers have resigned since July. She was addressing the media, Monday following mounting concerns about the mass exodus of teachers. However, the Minister says there is no need for alarm, as the Ministry has provided the necessary support for schools.
Education Minister Fayval Williams on Monday provided an official report to the media regarding the number of teachers that have resigned at the end of 2021/22 academic year. The Minister notes the number may increase by September 5. She noted some teachers have resigned due to migration; however, the Ministry remains unaware why others have decided to leave. She outlined the subject areas that will be filled by the 964 graduates of the ministry’s teacher-training program.
Additionally, Minister Williams says Spanish teachers from overseas will be provided through the Cuba-Jamaica bilateral relations. Shadow teachers employed for a year through the ministry will have access to all benefits according to the terms of their contract. Watch the full report:
