MOE Gives Report on CSEC and CAPE Performances

The Ministry of Education gave a detailed report on the performances in the June and July 2021 sitting of the CSEC and CAPE examinations which is governed by the Caribbean Examinations Council, (CXC) is an examination board in the Caribbean. According to the report, when compared to the corresponding period last year, there was an increase in passes. 

According to Education Minister, Fayval Williams, some 12,234 students from public schools were entered for unit 1, while 7,153 students were entered for unit 2.

In unit 1, 19 subject areas had greater than 90% of the students with passes, for one of those subjects, French, 100% of students who sat got passes. The lowest percentage of students who passed was in applied mathematics. Only 47.3% of students had a passing gradeThe Minister also compared the 2021 performance to 2020.

In the all Jamaica total, which includes private schools, 46, 010 candidates were registered to sit the examination, of which 60.2% were females and 39.8% males. Of those who entered 89.7% students sat, of which 78.9% received grades 1-3 in at least one subject. The Minister also commended students for their hard work in their CSEC and CAPE examinations amid the challenges.
