September is observed as prostate cancer awareness month, and the Ministry of Health and Wellness is ramping up efforts to spread awareness on the quite popular and deadly disease.
Risk factor Program Development Officer in the Non-communicable Disease and Inter-prevention Unit, in the Ministry of Health, Dr Cathi-Ann Williams, is encouraging Jamaican men to pay close attention to their prostate health.
Jamaica observes September as Prostate Awareness Month, to spread awareness for the country’s leading cancer, resulting in the most cancer deaths. Dr Williams underscores the importance of screening, noting that early detection will initiate early treatment increasing survivability. Based on findings since 2020, there have been over 15 hundred new cases each year. Against this background, she’s urging men over 40 to do their screening.
