COVID-19 and Monkeypox are the two notorious viruses demanding the Health Ministry’s attention. Speaking at the sector’s final media briefing on Thursday, Minister of Health and Wellness Dr. Christopher Tufton says the aim is still to curtail the spread of both viruses. He said from December 6 to 12, 42 new COVID-19 cases were recorded.
The Minister notes the formerly called Monkey Pox virus was renamed to Monkeypox and has recorded 18 total positive cases in Jamaica. He adds this represents the Ministry’s capability to recognize, diagnose and treat these viruses.
Chief Medical Officer Dr. Jacquilin Bisasor Mckenzie says she expects an increase in the number of positive COVID-19 cases in the future. She is urging vaccinated locals to get their booster shots while encouraging unvaccinated Jamaicans to get vaccinated. Watch the full report here:
