MOHW Refutes Claims of Covering up Oxygen Related Deaths

The Ministry of Health and Wellness has sought to refute claims of a cover-up of COVID-19 deaths that occurred as a result of oxygen shortage over three weeks ago.

According to Chief Medical Officer, (CMO) Dr. Jacqueline Bisasor Mckenzie, the Ministry continues its collection of information to determine whether any of the COVID-19 deaths were as a result of the oxygen shortage.

Claims and counterclaims amid a deadly health crisis, for the weekend of August 28 and 29, several hospitals reported low levels of oxygen and some were completely out of the lifesaving commodity. Unconfirmed reports have surfaced of people dying due to lack of oxygen.

Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Jacquiline Bisasor Mckenzie says she is taken aback by assertions that the Health Ministry is seeking to cover up COVID-19 deaths. She notes that though persons have died over the period of time, the Ministry is uncertain and can not say the deaths were a result of low oxygen supply.

Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr. Christopher Tufton again responded to calls for an independent inquiry into the oxygen shortage. Meanwhile, Dr. Bisasor Mckenzie sought to address the concern of the delays in the reporting of COVID-19 related deaths.
