Jamaica’s first confirmed Monkeypox patient who fled the May Pen Hospital in Clarendon, has been found and returned to isolation. While welcoming the news, the Junior Opposition Spokesman on health says the ministry must ensure that this doesn’t happen again.
According to Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton, the man escaped from the may pen hospital Saturday afternoon, by jumping through a bathroom window and into a waiting vehicle. He presented to the public health system on July 5 having arrived from the United Kingdom 5 days earlier. Shortly after the health minister told our news team that the police were pursuing the matter, he confirmed that the man was found and is back in isolation at the hospital.
Although relieved that the patient has been found, Junior Opposition Spokesman on health Jesse James Clarke is calling for a thorough investigation into the incident. Meanwhile, Dr. Tufton is urging citizens to protect themselves against the virus and alert the police or health authorities where necessary.
