Approximately two weeks ago the Ministry of Health and Wellness announced a backlog of about ten thousand (10,000) Covid-19 samples. This as a result of high global demands for the reagents used for testing.
Now that the Ministry has obtained reagents, well over half of the backlog has been cleared, and the remainder is expected to be cleared within the next two (2) weeks.
According to the Director of lab services at the National Public Health Laboratory Dr. Michelle Hamilton, the Ministry had anticipated that the backlog would be cleared completely by the 31st of July, however, more than 3000 samples are still to be tested.
