Irate vendors at the Musgrave Market in Port Antonio, Portland staged a protest on Christmas morning following the closure of the market, with what they claimed to be a last- minute notice.
According to the vendors, they have been told that the market will be closed until Monday, December 28. They argued that they were depending on the holidays to make some extra money.
On Friday, Port Antonio Sergeant, Delrose Green, in charge of communications for the Portland Police, warned vendors at the Musgrave Market to desist from blocking the road.
What was anticipated to be a Merry Christmas for them, even in light of the pandemic, turned sour, after they were advised that the market would be closed until Monday.
Much of their rage was fueled by not being allowed to remove their produce from the market, which they argued would go bad.
Eventually, the vendors got some relief, as calls were made to the Mayor of Port Antonio, Paul Thompson who CVM Live understands, advised the watchman that he should allow them to remove their goods.
Meanwhile, Sergeant Green advised that the head of the Portland Police, Superintendent Duane Wellington had no part in the market closure.
