National Security Minister, Dr. Horace Chang says the government is committed to protecting every citizen from the threat of organized crime. Speaking Tuesday at the second Technical Working Workshop for the development of the national organized crime strategy at the Moon Palace Hotel in St Ann the Minister explains a triangular approach to combat organized crime which he says includes an effective security force.
With Jamaica being one of the longest liberal democracies in the region, Dr. Chang says strengthening the legislative framework is also paramount. He says the aim of the workshop is to develop a cohesive, organized crime strategy to treat such crimes.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Crime Portfolio, Fitz Bailey lauds the initiative. The DCP believes the impact of organized crime is far reaching and is too complexly entrenched in the society.
