Nation’s Leaders Condemn Family Killing

The killing of a mother and her four children in Chapelton, Clarendon on Tuesday saw the nation’s leaders condemning the gruesome act, simultaneously reminding Jamaicans to play their part in assisting the police. The leaders paused for a moment of silence in Parliament to show respect for the five lives lost.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness, who left Jamaica for Rwanda extends condolences to the family. He labeled the crime, the most gruesome he can recall in recent times, adding it is an attack on civility. He reassures Jamaicans, the nation’s heads of security are working assiduously to bring justice to the matter.

Minister of National Security Dr. Horace Chang expressed sorrow for the happening, which he says is a suspected domestic dispute.

Member of Parliament for the constituency Robert Morgan is encouraging residents to assist the decease’s family in any way possible.

Meanwhile Opposition Spokesperson on Gender Affairs, Culture, and Social Transformation Denise Daley, in condemning the act is calling on the authorities to leave no stone unturned until the person responsible for these senseless murders is brought to justice.

She says she is recommitting the support of the opposition in doing their part to help in the fight against domestic violence and abuse.

These murders follow a series of other killings in neighbouring parish, St. Catherine, where a state of public emergency was recently imposed. Watch the report below:
