Nature-based solutions are the highest form of technology in environmental protection. That is according to Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Pearnel Charles Jr., who was speaking during the Climate Investment Funds high-level panel at the Climate Change Conference of the Parties, (COP26).

The objective of the nature, people, and climate investments program, an initiative of the Climate Investment Funds is to harness the potential of land resources and other ecosystems, including coastal systems in climate action. This is to improve livelihoods in developing and middle-income countries to address mitigation and adaptation to climate change.
Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Pearnel Charles Jr., sought to highlight the establishment of the adaptation program & financing mechanism in Jamaica, to build resilience in the agriculture and fisheries sector. He noted that the programme that has been implemented in rural communities, he also made mention of the aquaponics programme which see five aquaponic farms in five different rural communities, which brought that particular technology to farmers in those areas.
Charles Jr. notes that farmers in those rural communities have gained techniques that are using nature in a more efficient way. The Minister posited his support to scale up nature-based approaches.
