NCB Responds To Customer Complaint

Another coordinated attack according to one frustrated customer who spoke with Cvm Live recently. The customer alleges she has lost over one hundred thousand Jamaican dollars from her National Commercial Bank (NCB) savings account. Money she says was taken from her account over a two-month period.

The woman alleges the first so called scam attempt was on October 25, 2022, as she noticed a thread of emails giving approval for  $76,516.03 Jamaican dollars to be deducted. The alleged lack of communication from the bank has left her livid.

The customer further disclosed this prompted a visit to the bank where she was advised to change her pin number, however, the mayhem continued on November 26, as she alleges that a further 270 US dollars was removed from her accounts.

When Cvm Live previously reported on the customer’s concerns our news team was unsuccessful in getting a response from the Fraud Prevention Unit. However Head of the unit Dane Nicholson provided an update on Sunday.

In May of this year, Cvm Live reported that NCB customers had been scammed for 18 million dollars over the course of ten days, at the time Nicholson had said that because customers would have divulged their information to the fraudsters, even unknowingly, the bank is not obligated to reimburse.

Instead, he said those matters would have been treated on a discretionary basis. Nicholson, also said that the bank’s discretion will be fair for all customers. He dismissed allegations that the scamming that occurred earlier this year was being fueled by workers at the bank calls are being made for the banking sector to better fortify their systems in a bid to prevent customers falling victim to scams.
