The restriction on event permits for several areas in Westmoreland, including the entertainment hub, Negril, has dampened the spirits of organizers. However, after meeting with the head of the Westmoreland Police Division, members of the Negril Entertainment Association are hopeful that they’ll be able to get entertainment back on track.
The fate of smaller promoters outside of Negril is still not clear. The euphoria of party promoters and patrons in Westmoreland only lasted for a little over a week after the entertainment sector reopened on March 18. By March 28, news came from the commanding officer of the Westmoreland police division that no event permits will be granted for several areas due to the upsurge in criminal activities; among the areas, Sav-La-Mar, parts of Little London and Negril. But the president of the Negril entertainment association tells CVM Live a meeting with Senior Superintendent Robert Gordon has since restored optimism. Ryan Morrison describes the resort town as a dead zone without the usual entertainment events. While citing a few highly anticipated parties, he says all his members are making preparations. It’s not clear how long the restriction on event permits in Westmoreland will last. Efforts to get a response from SSP Gordon on Thursday, proved futile.
