NEPA Addresses Negril Fire

With constant criticism regarding last week’s fire at the Negril Great Morass, the National Environment And Planning Agency (NEPA) has disclosed that cost and recruitment woes have stalled the re hydration project that would have been able to combat the problem.

The agency says the project has been discontinued only momentarily, as they focus on resolving these issues. Despite constant intervention over the years, the Negril Great Morass has been continuously plagued by fire.

Members from NEPA, say they’ve been working assiduously to address this problem.

Speaking at a media briefing on Tuesday, Chief Executive Officer and Government Town Planner of NEPA, Peter Knight, says the problematic nuisance of the fire is further provoked by some level of lawlessness. Amid projects that were implemented to alleviate this problem is the integrating water, land and ecosystems management, which is a biodiversity mainstreaming in coastal landscapes within the Negril environmental protection area.

However, knight says the project has been faced with several problems which has impacted it’s effectiveness. Knight says the project has been momentarily discontinued because of an issue that needs to be resolved.
