The upsurge in COVID-19 cases in China along with the new COVID-19 variant spreading in the United States has sparked some concerns for the local Tourism Industry. On the heels of the tourism winter season with an influx of flights to and from Jamaica, should hotels reinforce the COVID-19 protocols?
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), a new version of the Omicron Variant of COVID-19 has taken hold in the United States it goes by the name X-B-B.1.5. The latest strain has raised concerns about another potential wave of COVID cases following the busy holiday travel season.
Additionally, in recent months China has been seeing a surge in COVID-19 cases. In the meantime, there have also been concerns for Jamaica’s Tourism Industry, as to whether this will have a negative impact. Senior Advisor and Communication Strategist in the Tourism Industry Delano Seiveright insists there is no need for panic.
Amid concerns for the new variant, Seiveright says to date there’s been no tightening of COVID- 19 measures at hotels.
