The Ian Fleming Airport in St. Mary had a grand opening on August 14, after months of reconstruction. The renovation was carried out under the Ministry of National Security’s Rebuild, Overhaul and Construct project geared towards providing proper infrastructures for police stations.
Speaking at ceremony, minister without portfolio in the Ministry of National Security Matthew Samuda says this new structure at the Ian Fleming Airport will be far more conducive to the police officers, as the previous structure was lacking many resources.
Minister Samuda noted the importance of strengthening police presence at the nation’s airports and says the Government has also invested in the other ports of entry. He says the Government has made significant investment in the Marine police, the Jamaica Defense Force (JDF), in an effort to protect the country’s waters and deal with the border issues that we are facing.
Since the start of the 2021 fiscal year, over 58 million dollars was allocated for the renovations of various police stations across St. Mary. The Minister, however, explained the cause of delays for the development of the Port Maria police station, despite already having a groundbreaking ceremony.
