The first baby of the New Year. As excitement warms the heart of Morteeca Cunningham, the mother who delivered her baby on New Year’s day at the Cornwall Regional Hospital in Montego Bay, she says the joy of having a safe delivery is immeasurable.
While the journey of motherhood is not unfamiliar terrain for her, she says she did not expect to deliver her baby on New Year’s Day, but luckily she was prepared.
Cunningham says baby Malika Malcolm is her fourth child, as she notes the intention to make this one her last. She gave birth at 4:28 am on Sunday, but she says her journey with her little one started the day she found out she was pregnant, and she has been overjoyed since. She also expresses gratitude to the nurses who cared for her during her painful delivery.
Meanwhile, a resident at the hospital Chanel Reid Ostein says the hospital did not expect a higher than usual traffic of mothers, noting the usually slowed birth rate during this period.
