Minister with responsibility for Digital Transformation, Floyd Green, in his contribution to the sectoral debate on Tuesday, indicates that the National Identification System (NIDS) is set to be launched in two months.
Minister without portfolio in the office of the Prime Minister, Floyd Green says NIDS will be more reliable, and will also dismiss the service of a justice of the peace for proof of identity.
Green is insisting that NIDS will provide a safe, convenient, and reliable means for persons to prove their identity, while aiding in the government’s drive for digitalization, adding that NIDS enrollment is voluntary and will be encouraged by a robust public education campaign.
He says the first NIDS enrollment site is expected to be ready in Kingston by August 2022, where an additional five sites will be added by the end of the year. Expounding further on the importance of having a NIDS card, Green said that other means of identification are not available to the entire populace.
Also in his contribution, he announced the Bedside Registration Application, which will allow mothers to leave hospitals or birth centers with verifiable and digital copies of their children’s birth certificates by next year. Watch the report below:
