Approximately two months ago Minister with Responsibility for the National Identification System (NIDS), Floyd Green announced the rollout by the end of 2022. This system is expected to change how citizens trade, live and the government’s handling of crime in years to come.
During a presentation at the NIDS technical pilot launch ceremony in Kingston on Tuesday, Prime Minister Andrew Holness says citizens below 18 years old will benefit by having a national identification card. He adds the government understands the importance of electronic and digital identification for all Jamaicans.
While the system has taken over 40 years to launch Prime Minister Holness declares it will eliminate the requirement for multiple forms of identification. He notes this new policy entails penalties for data breaching.
