Effective November 8, fully vaccinated Jamaicans traveling to the United States should encounter no issues with the vaccination cards issued by the Health Ministry.
The assurance came from Health Minister. Dr. Christopher Tufton recently, following the announcement from the Biden Administration that non-citizen, non-immigrant adults traveling to the U.S will be required to be fully vaccinated with only limited exceptions and provide proof of vaccination status.
Additionally, all travelers will need to be tested for the virus before boarding a plane to the U.S. Dr. Christopher Tufton says the country’s paper-based COVID-19 vaccination cards will suffice for travels to the U.S come November 8. He advised persons to get vaccinated and complete their vaccination process as the card is important for their travel.
At the same time, Permanent Secretary in the Health Ministry, Dunstan Bryan says the issuing of digital vaccination cards is still on track for December.
He says Cabinet has approved negotiations with a non-governmental organization (NGO) in India to develop the cards with a solution being utilized in other jurisdictions. To allow for the transition from paper to electronic card, Bryan says the Ministry will be conducting a validation exercise starting November.
