The National Road Safety Council (NRSC) is urging pedestrians to use the roads with greater care. The plea comes with the rising number of pedestrian deaths. Vice Chairman of the NRSC, Dr Lucien Jones, says while private motor vehicle drivers and passengers along with motorcyclists have a trend in road fatalities, the number of pedestrians dying is a cause for concern.
Up to August 10, 57 pedestrians have died since the start of the year. As such, Dr Jones is urging road users to use the roads with greater care. He says far too many pedestrians are dying, due to the improper use of the roads. Dr Jones admits while motorists must respect all road users, the responsibility rests heavily on pedestrians to be safe.
Meanwhile, the Vice President says the new road traffic act will empower the police to act accordingly in terms of pedestrian safety.
