As communities grapple with the issue of improper garbage disposal, the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) met with members of one Kingston community recently, to explore healthy and alternative ways of discarding their waste.
There are also calls for public education on proper garbage disposal.
The Torrington Park community in Kingston is one of the many residential areas in the corporate area that has been struggling with the chronic issue of improper garbage disposal. Member of Parliament for the area Mark Golding says there have been numerous clean-up projects within the community, however the back of the scheme is now an issue.
He notes the dialogue with community members is towards finding an alternative to properly dispose of their garbage. Golding highlights at this time the rate of improper garbage disposal is unacceptable, adding while the NSWMA needs the proper infrastructure in place,
He says residents who continue to practice improper garbage disposal, are doing a disservice to their community. More details in this report:
