A family, who feels targeted by the police, is demanding transparency regarding several searches that were conducted at their dwelling in St. Catherine. The residents recount numerous searches that occurred within two weeks, without the home owners receiving a signed warrant. They say they are also forced to endure harassment. What appears to be an anti-gang operation conducted in the community of Sydenham in St. Catherine, has sparked increased concerns of the true reasoning behind the search.
Only one household has been searched on numerous occasions, with law enforcement forcing their doors open to enter the premises. During these searches, the residents say the police provide warrants that are not signed, and the alleged suspects’ names and address are not written on the document. The second search in two weeks resulted in several men being arrested and brought to the police station for processing. However when their loved ones inquire the reason for the arrests, their questions are never answered. Residents say they feel that specific house is being targeted. When the last search was conducted, several damages were reported to INDECOM.
