Nutramix has partnered with the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries to provide support to farmers who rear ruminant animals. According to Agriculture Minister Floyd Green, the Ministry is looking to target 6-thousand farmers over the next two years.
Speaking at a launch in Manchester recently, Minister Green, says this is initiative with Nutramix a lucrative opportunity for farmers. He notes in the past the Government of Jamaica had a total expenditure of US one billion on goat and chevon meats.
The Minister notes, the current local supply only satisfies 25 percent of the demand for goat and chevon meats. He adds that the practice of modern base agriculture is critical in bolstering the island’s small ruminant sector.
Minister Green also says the Government will embark on a small ruminant project valued at some 50 million Jamaican dollars. He notes the Ministry will seek to target up to 6000 farmers over two years.
