Nzinga Stands By Her Claims against Police

Nzinga King, the 19-year-old who alleges that a female officer cut her dreadlocks unlawfully, is standing by her claim, this is according to her lawyer, Isat Buchanan. Her rebuttal follows claims by some people on social media suggesting the woman’s claims are untrue.

Throughout social media there have been many variations that question the validity of the story however, King continues to stand strongly by her claims members in her community. Protests continue to spur throughout Jamaica, a constant reminder to authorities of the public’s interest in the outcome.

Attorney for Nzinga, Isat Buchanan says they are currently waiting on the CCTV footage as substantial evidence to Nzinga’s claim. The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM), has however provided a preliminary update on the completed aspects of the investigation stating it has interviewed and received written statements from the complainant and the mother of the complainant.

Additionally, it has initiated and arranged with victim services to provide counselling to Nzinga and her family.

INDECOM Commissioner Hugh Faulkner says the concerned officers will be served section 21 notices, pursuant to the Independent Commission of Investigations Act, to attend the offices of the commission to be interviewed. Upon the completion of the investigation, the findings and recommendations will be made available to the appropriate authorities.
