Following the Prime Minister’s plans to impose another State of Public Emergency(SOPE), Political Commentator Kevin O’Brien Chang says he is in support of another round of SOEs amid the Yuletide season. Speaking with our news team on Friday he notes there has been no major increase in crime since the implementation of the SOEs.
According to O’Brien Chang, this is the safest Jamaica has been since the 2010 and 2018 SOEs, noting the crime is at a much lower rate. He says promoters prefer safety as opposed to a curfew during the Christmas season which is usually the busiest for the entertainment sector. With regards to concerns from the Opposition when persons are detained, O’Brien Chang says the proper procedures are already in place should persons end up in police custody.
