Ocho Rios Craft Vendors Honoured with a Ceremony

The Ocho Rios Craft Council and other stakeholders have partnered to host an awards ceremony honoring craft vendors for their years of service and contribution to the tourism experience.

The council’s president is however, calling for more government support and recognition for craft and craft vendors. As the country slowly transitions from the repercussions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, tourism is well on its way to reassume its position as a macroeconomic staple. Tourism workers have had to exert much resilience even as their livelihoods were significantly impacted by the prevailing pandemic.

As such, the Craft Council and other stakeholders saw it fit to host an awards ceremony honoring craft vendors for their years of service and contribution to the sector.

President of the council, Devon Mitchell says it’s imperative to honor the craft vendors as they play a part in enhancing Jamaica’s tourism product. Mitchell told CVM Live some of the awardees have been craft vendors for over 45 years. He says for that reason it wasn’t difficult convincing stakeholders to get on board, as everyone deemed the recognition necessary.
