The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) has declared January as Earthquake Awareness Month. To promote earthquake readiness, a month-long campaign titled ‘Drop, Cover, Hold: Earthquake Readiness is Within Our Control’ was launched on Sunday. ODPEM has planned a series of events and activities throughout January, including an official launch at the Terra Nova All-Suite Hotel in Kingston and an Earthquake Awareness Exhibition at parish libraries across the island. Acting Director General Richard Thompson, during an interview with CVM News on Wednesday, encouraged schools and businesses to actively participate in Earthquake Awareness Month by conducting earthquake safety drills.
