Two soldiers from the Jamaica Defense Force (JDF) were shot and injured in a gun battle in St Catherine on Thursday morning, reports are while on a joint operation in the Homestead community they encountered two armed men. The armed men challenged the lawmen. During the shoot out one of the men was shot and killed while the other managed to escape. A firearm was also seized.
Several communities off Old Harbour Road in St. Catherine have been under patrol for months as a means to quell crime. On Thursday, June 24, while joint military operations were in action in a section of the Homestead Community, two men sought to challenge the police and members of the Jamaica Defense Force along Mansfield Avenue.
CVM LIVE understands two soldiers were shot during the gun battle. Superintendent of police for the St. Catherine North Police Division Howard Chambers outlined the incident.
