Since the launch of Operation Transportation Streamline, authorities have apprehended 37 individuals for extortion. These arrests took place across key areas including Half Way Tree, Cross Roads, and Downtown Kingston. This joint effort involving the Police and Transport Authority personnel aims to persist until the menace of criminal extortion within the public transportation sector is completely eliminated.
The collaborative effort titled “Operation Transportation Streamline,” initiated on September 4, is a combination of police, the Transport Authority, and the Island Traffic Authority. Its main focus is tackling various concerns within the PPV (Public Passenger Vehicle) industry, encompassing extortion, fare overcharging, vehicle defects, and reckless driving.
