Opportunity In COVID: Sanmerna On A Roll, Expands To Nigeria

Sanmerna to expand its reach: The fear of the pandemic has left many businesses and investors cautious, waiting on the right time to weather this coronavirus storm.

But for one Jamaican paper product company, it says the outbreak has given rise to a business opportunity on another continent, in Africa.

The coronavirus has caused chaos in the global markets, but it has seemingly created opportunities for some businesses.

The company which manufactures paper products for industrial and household use such as toiletries and napkins has announced that it will be setting up shop in Nigeria, Africa.

Managing Director, Robert White says the decision to open a new space on a different continent was weighty.

White says the company would like to expand its operations here in Jamaica.  However, they need access to land.

Meanwhile Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce Audley Shaw, lauded the company for their investment and has committed to providing support for a smooth transition.

And Nigerian High Commissioner to Jamaica, Manuel Oguntuyi says the partnership will promote trade between the two countries, increase foreign direct investment and provide jobs.

He explains that the distance between both countries may be a deterrent however he explains that work is far advanced for a connected flight from Nigeria to Jamaica, it’s expected to take off in December.

Then, he says, more opportunities will be created.
