Junior Shadow Spokesperson on Health and Wellness Jesse James Clarke has renewed his call for the government to provide more resources to the health sector. This comes after Minister of Health and Wellness Dr. Christopher Tufton in his review of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) assessment says the shortage of healthcare workers was a major challenge that resulted in the spread of resistant bacteria across hospitals last year.
The bacterial infection also claimed the lives of twelve newborns last July. The Spokesman says it is important the government considers local healthcare professionals to address the shortfall. He notes there was also a breakdown in sanitation at the special care facilities as well. The facilities visited by PAHO include Victoria Jubilee Hospital, Bustamante Hospital for Children and Spanish Town Hospital.
