The Opposition is condemning Prime Minister Andrew Holness on his consideration to import skilled workers to Jamaica. Opposition spokesperson on Education and Training, Dr Angela Brown-Burke is not in agreement with this move.
After the Prime Minister announced that Jamaica is experiencing a labour shortage, where he may be forced to import skilled labour workers to fill the gap of increasing requests, Dr Brown-Burke says the government must represent Jamaica’s youth.
She notes it is the government’s responsibility to put something in place to ensure there are skilled workers available and added that there are numerous persons who are either waiting to be trained by HEART or waiting for their certificate.
The opposition is calling on the government to identify the talents that they have, both those who are ready for the labor market and those who need support. More details in the report:
