The Opposition expresses deep concerns as allegations surface regarding a pension fraud probe at the Ministry of Labour and Social Security (MLSS), with reports suggesting that hundreds of millions of dollars have gone missing.
Dr. Angela Brown Burke, the spokesperson for Labour and Social Security, shares the disheartening news, emphasizing the impact on pensioners who already face significant delays in receiving their meager payments due to insufficient funding within the Ministry. Dr Bruke says the situation is causing immense hardship and distress for individuals who rely on these funds for their daily sustenance, and now they must endure further delays as a result of the misappropriation of funds. Internal audits conducted at the Ministry reveal a startling revelation that payments made under the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) exceed more than double the amount that should have been paid based on the pension order books issued by the Ministry.
Mrs. Audrey Deer-Williams, the Chief Technical Director responsible for the Social Security Division of the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, released a statement addressing the matter. Watch the report:
