The Opposition is giving the Commissioner of Police sixty (60) days to control crime or resign. The government has been under scrutiny in recent months following the implementation of the State of Emergency (SOE). Recommendations were also made for the Minister of National Security to be removed from his post.
The Peoples’ National Party’s latest media briefing was once again focused on the wave of crime and violence in the country. Opposition leader Mark Golding criticized the government’s security measures labeling them as failures. The opposition leader points out that there was no proper structure in how the SOE’s were implemented and many young men were detained for months without charge. This he notes is unconstitutional. He adds there was also no substantial support to police officers on the ground.
