An impeachment bill that was tabled in Parliament in 2011 but not amended was brought up by Opposition Leader, Mark Golding. He says he had made a proposal to Prime Minister Andrew Holness for a Joint Select Committee to conduct a revision of the bill.
Opposition leader, Mark Golding is calling for the passage of an impeachment bill that had originally been in existence since 2011 under the leadership of then Prime Minister, Bruce Golding. The bill will provide for the impeachment of Senators and Members of Parliament, for certain forms of misconduct while in office.
The opposition leader says Prime Minister, Andrew Holness in 2016 had said that the bill would have been tabled in Parliament. Mr. Golding proposed the bill be brought before a Joint Select Committee for review. Mr. Golding suggests that legislation of this nature is imperative to the credible operation of Jamaican politics.
