Opposition Leader Claims Jamaica Plagued by Massive Taxation

Opposition Leader Mark Golding says there is a massive increase in the amount of taxes collected from the people over the past two years. This is despite the government’s no new taxes statement announced in parliament during last week’s Budget Debate.

Golding contends it has ravaged the standard of living of many Jamaicans. Opposition leader Mark Golding is dismissing as false, the Finance Minister, Dr. Nigel Clarke’s pronouncement recently, of new taxes. The Finance Minister during his budget presentation, announced the proposed trillion-dollar budget for this financial year, will not attract additional taxes.

However, Golding, during his presentation on Tuesday, notes the government will collect 766 billion dollars in taxes this fiscal year, which represents an increase over the previous year. Watch the report:
