As the COVID-19 restrictions take effect, the opposition is calling on the Andrew Holness led administration to put mechanisms in place to facilitate persons in informal sectors.
Opposition Spokesman on Finance and Planning Julian Robinson says since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the informal sectors have been mostly ravished. Speaking with CVM live recently, Robinson notes that the limited curfew hours will not be conducive as this will put a further strain on the poor. He also says the poor have been suffering well over a year since the crisis.
As the new school term approaches, the Spokesman says the Government should provide for the most vulnerable. Robinson says the fiscal surplus accumulated by the Government, is not only significant but can be utilized to attend to the needs of the public. He also says as the dollar depreciates, prices will continue to increase, and suggested solutions as to how the Government can improve the lives of vulnerable Jamaicans.
