Opposition: NHT is Not a Business Institution for Profit Maximization

The Opposition Senator, Damion Crawford, is condemning the government’s concept of the National Housing Trust (NHT). Senator Crawford is insisting the NHT is not just a business, but rather a housing solution for poorer citizens. He was speaking at a recent divisional conference in Springfield, Kingston.

Refuting statements made by the Prime Minister on the National Housing Trust, that the NHT is not a welfare institution but a financial institution to support housing development, Senator Crawford asserts the NHT cannot be a business, as the priority of a business is profit, therefore the government’s vision is misguided. He explains that the concept of maximizing profit is different from the People’s National Party’s, which believes the common good is the ownership of something, where the first ownership should be housing. Crawford further suggests solutions for persons without a salary slip, but who wish to get a mortgage.

Meanwhile, Shadow Minister on Finance, Julian Robinson, is calling on the government to do more to cushion the increase in gas prices. He says while to government’s revenue climbs, it is not doing enough to support citizens in need. More details in the report below:
