Opposition Predicts Spike In COVID-19 Cases In 2023

With the anticipated large gatherings during the festive season, Opposition Spokesperson on Health Dr Morais Guy predicts a possible spike in COVID-19 cases for the New Year. He is therefore appealing to Jamaicans to take personal responsibility in protecting themselves against the virus. With the changes in climate and the increased movements during the holiday season, the ministry of health predicts this will cause an uptick in viral illnesses including COVID-19.

Dr. Guy says Jamaicans should expect a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases in the new year, however, it will not be extensive. The Ministry of Health & Wellness is currently monitoring and gathering data on the COVID-19 situation in China and other parts of the world.

Despite mask-wearing not being mandatory, Dr Guy says all Jamaicans have a personal responsibility to protect themselves from the COVID-19 virus. A surge in cases in China and other parts of the world has generated much concern locally.
