Tensions continue to rise between the two major political parties- the People’s National Party (PNP) and the Jamaica’s Labour Party (JLP). The Opposition (PNP) broke their silence following statements made by Prime Minister (PM) Andrew Holness regarding the People’s National Party’s (PNP) failure to support the State of Public Emergency (SOPE).
The PNP General Secretary was quick to dismiss Holness’s statements about the Opposition’s pushback on the SOPE extension in 2010. Campbell asserts the measures resulted from violent turmoil caused by the JLP administration’s attempt to frustrate the lawful extradition of the JLP affiliated Criminal Kingpin Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke. Claims made by PM Holness were that the opposition prevented the extension of the SOPEs in St. Catherine.
According to Dr. Campbell, this is fictional. He notes Holness continues to double down on his false narrative, and after twelve years further embellishes his story with falsehoods. Another false narrative the General Secretary says is the Opposition’s rejection of proposals for pre-charge detentions. Watch the full report for more details:
