The Opposition’s again calling on the government to create a national public transportation plan. Shadow Minister on Transport Mikael Phillips says the time has come for the Prime Minister to take transport seriously, highlighting infrastructural deficiencies and concerns in recent months.

Shadow Minister on Transport Mikael Phillips says the prime minister must act now in the interest of the transport sector. However, his plea spans more than just issues affecting the state-owned bus company or the Kingston Metropolitan Transport Region (KMTR).

Phillips notes the JUTC is broken and as he puts it, is on life support bleeding billions in tax dollars. Even with the recent addition of 50 new buses and repairs to nearly a dozen others, he explains the bus fleet is short more than 400 units.

He’s also demanding attention to infrastructure in various sections of the country.
