As violence in schools becomes increasingly common, Opposition Spokesperson on Education, Dr. Angela Brown-Burke is urging the government to implement a formal coordinated program to tackle the issue.
She’s also suggesting there be heightened security in and around schools to protect students even when they leave the school compound. It’s been less than a month since schools have returned to face-to-face learning and already, the nation has seen an alarming number of school fights and altercations, some of which have resulted in the death of students.
Opposition spokesperson on education, Dr. Angela Brown-Burke is calling on the government to implement a formal coordinated program geared towards tackling the issues that may be causing the outbursts. Dr. Brown-burke says the approach must be more than an on the surface intervention to truly address the genesis of the problem. Like many others, Dr. Brown-Burke suspects the two-year pandemic period may be a key factor in explaining the students’ behaviour. She’s urging greater surveillance in and around schools to prevent students from being targeted when they leave the school compound.
