The Opposition spokesman on Health, Dr. Morais Guy is urging the government to urgently reimpose mask mandate as COVID-19 infections continue to rise in the 5th wave of the pandemic.
On Friday, the Prime Minister announced that soon all Jamaicans will again be required to wear a mask. However, the Opposition Spokesman on Health stresses that the longer mask mandate is delayed, the longer it will take to see a reduction in the number of COVID-19 positives.
Dr. Guy is among those who chastised the government for removing the indoor mask mandate, arguing that it should be enforced in places such as schools and businesses. On Sunday, Jamaica recorded 433 new cases of the virus from 4, 336 tests done; the highest daily number of infections since the country entered its fifth wave.
