Over 130 Domestic Homicides Reported in Two Years

Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP,  Jacqueline Dillon, is also expressing concern, regarding domestic homicides across the island. Since 2021, at least 130 domestic murders have been recorded in Jamaica. 

Almost 17 thousand reports of domestic violence have been made to the Domestic Violence Intervention Centres within the past two years. At least 130 of them resulted in the loss of life. Speaking to CVM LIVE, Head of the Centres, DSP Dillon explains while the 2023 data is not readily available, there was an increase in domestic homicide from 67 in 2021 to 70 in 2022. 

She says this trend is not because Jamaica is any worse than other countries, instead, it is due to a lack of education pertaining to the issue and neighbors being unwilling to report conflicts in their surroundings. Watch the report:
