President of the Jamaica Society for Industrial Security, George Overton says security guards over the last two months have amassed close to 100 per cent increase in their wages spurred by the shift from contract to employee. He also says the raft of changes announced by the Labour Minister concerning the guards came as no surprise, adding clients have also been sensitized.
Commander Overton says guards have benefited in the last two months. However, he says clients have been sensitized as to the changes reminding them it is not yet been gazetted as the stakeholders had concerns that were only Tuesday addressed, among them the changes to life and other insurance benefits, uniform allowances, etc which they will use to bargain with clients.
Meantime, the Commander notes technology will play a vital role in creating efficiency and reducing the burden on guards. Watch the report:
