Partnership between MOCA & FID Strengthened with New MOU

The Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency, (MOCA) and the Financial Investigations Division, (FID) signed a memorandum of understanding recently, aimed at strengthening both organisations’ response to money laundering, organised crime, fraud, and financial crime.

The MOU will enhance the effective working relationship between the FID and MOCA. For years both bodies have been targeting facilitators of fraudulent activities as well as organised and financial crime. Taking the profit out of crime, that’s the primary mandate of both the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency, (MOCA) and the Financial Investigations Division, (FID).

Chief Technical Director of the FID, Selvin Hay says the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding, is aimed at strengthening their response. Hay noted that this signifies the trust that both bodies have started. The Proceeds of Crime Act, (POCA) is the legislative framework that provides for the investigation, identification, and recovery of the profits of crime and for connected matters.

The Memorandum of Understanding will enhance information sharing, casework assistance, referrals including criminal referrals, and allow for joint operations and investigations. Director General of MOCA col. Desmond Edwards notes that the MOU will also create better utilisation of the finite resources available to both agencies.
