Persons of Interest Turn Themselves in to the Police

After several community meetings in Central Kingston on Wednesday, several persons of interest have turned themselves in to the police. The police say the act has been helpful.

Fifteen of twenty-two men have turned themselves in to the Central Kingston police after being listed as persons of interest on Wednesday at a community meeting with residents. The police say others are making arrangements to follow suit.

Speaking with CVM Live on Thursday, Deputy Superintendent of Police Linval Phoenix says several of these men have already been interviewed and released. DSP Phoenix says the ongoing crime in the area is linked to extortion and a turf war between the Genosyde and Darkness gangs.

He says one of the top members of the Genosyde Gang was killed recently, hence the upsurge in violent crimes. However, he says business owners are afraid to report they’re being extorted but residents are no longer remaining quiet, especially after the killing of 10 year old Jezariah Tyrell in her home last Thursday.

DSP Phoenix says there will be far more police interaction in the division.
