Persons on Illegal Gun Charges Should Remain In Custody

Police Commissioner Major General Antony Anderson says persons charged with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition should remain in custody. He made the assertion Thursday, while he and members of his team visited the St. Catherine north division which has been plagued by gang conflict.

On Sunday, there was a quadruple murder on Railway Lane, Spanish Town which has left residents fearful of more killings. They are also appealing to the police to refrain from using unmarked vehicles, to which Major General Anderson says changes will be made. Major General Antony Anderson says more than 400 persons have been charged with illegal possession of firearm and or ammunition since the start of this year.

Minister of Legal and Constitutional Affairs, Marlene Malahoo Forte recently declared that persons faced with murder or gun charges should not be at large. Major general Anderson  also sought to reassure residents that the police will apprehend the two main suspects in a quadruple murder in the area Sunday. The community’s entrance remains blocked as residents try to hinder gunmen from taking more lives. At the same time, the residents lament the use of unmarked vehicles by the police. A concern taken very seriously by the Police Commissioner.
